Introducing Career Architecture

In February of 2021, I spent some time with Lisa O’Neill from Thought Leaders Business School talking about the right book for my practice. After describing information architecture and the relationship to digital (once I compare it to cataloguing, the connections are made), then I said, “But my passion is coaching and mentoring designers in their jobs.” Lisa reflected back, “Oh then, you’re an architect – a career and information architect.”

Later in the call, I described the book on elders in design; the advice, “This is your passion project – your first book should be the one to establish your practice.”

And so, Career Architecture the book was born.

Career architecture is a hands-on book that provides designers of all levels with a process to define their next role. The process is not limited to a person wanting to leave a role: it can be used by design leaders to help their teams work out if they are ready for the next step, for designers to understand if they want to become specialists, or new leaders on where they should focus their training.

Over the next few months, I will be talking about the main points of career architecture ready for the launch at the end of August.
